January Highlights

Snow and Ice Day

Painting with ice cubes.

Trying to make snowballs with shaving cream.

The children loved playing in the snow!

The Letter "S"

Today we started our alphabet.  We follow the Jolly Phonics Program just like the schools do.  We learned about the letter "S", we know the sound it makes and the action that goes with it.  We also started our alphabet work books so we will know how to print each letter.

Have you ever built a snowman?

Shoe mix up! Find your shoes and put them on.
Conner's melted snowman.

The Letter "A"

Today we made paper airplanes.

Playing sleeping bunnies with animals that start with the letter "A".

What is your favorite animal?  Cat was the winner by far!

Winter

One of our favorite activities today was "Mitten Mix Up."  We piled all of the children's mittens and then divided them into two groups.  The goal of the game was to find their own mittens, put them on and return to the wall where they started.

Turtle craft

Serena's turtle craft!

Africa

Today we are flying to Africa.  We talked about everything that you might need to do before flying like getting a passport.  We talked about what passports contain such as your name, address, birthdate, picture and signature, etc...  The children wrote their name in their very own passport, drew a picture of themselves and wrote their signature.  When we were finished we had them board the plane and I checked to make sure that the picture looked like them.

Take off!

Leah's African necklace.

Alex's African necklace

Caleb, Rowan and Megan playing with the African animals.

Landing!

We had black grapes for snack.  They are grown in Africa!

Family Literacy Day

Today was a storm day so our afterschool children came over for a visit. They partnered with a preschool child and read to them.  The children loved it! (Both groups!)

Reading buddies!

The letter "I"

Today we played with instruments and pass the ice cube.

The children loved making music with a great selection of instruments.

Rowan passing the ice to Serena.
This is played like hot potato except it's with a block of ice.

Ice cream counting cards.

The children loved trying to melt the ice to get the toys out.
They played till their fingers were red!
